פַּרְנָסָה, (preced. wds.) provision, maintenance, outfit. Peah VIII, 7 פַּרְנָסַת לינה the necessary arrangement for a night’s lodging (for the poor), expl. Sabb. 118ᵃ, v. פּוּרְיָא II ch.; B. Bath. 9ᵃ; Tosef. Peah IV, 8. Keth. 50ᵇ (ref. to זן ib.) פ׳ הויא וכ׳ does this mean (bridal) outfit … or sustenance proper? Ib. התם לפ׳ הואי there it was about the outfit. Ib. 68ᵃ, a. e. לפ׳ שמון באב as to the amount for which the heirs are to be assessed for a daughter’s outfit, we are guided by the disposition of her deceased father. Ib. (ref. to מתפרנסות, ib.) מאי לאו פרנסת הבעל does it not mean the outfit for the husband (dower)? לא בפרנסת עצמה no, it refers to her own support. Ib.ᵇ איבדו מזונותיהן ולא איבדו פַרְנָסָתָן they have lost their claim on alimentation (from the estate), but not their claim on an outfit. Ber. 3ᵇ עמך ישראל צריכין פ׳ Israel, thy people, need a living.
