פָּפִילְיוֹן, (papilio) pavilion, tent, curtain. Pesik. Vayhi, p. 2ᵃ עשו לה פ׳ … בתוך פ׳ Ar. (ed. פָּאפִילְיוֹן) make a tent for her (my daughter), and I shall speak to her in the tent; Cant. R. to III, 9 פָּפִלְיוֹן; Yalk. Ex. 365 אפוליון (corr. acc.; Yalk. Cant. 986 קִיטוֹן). Yalk. Ps. 735 נטל פיפילון ופירש עליו (corr. acc.) he took a curtain and spread it over him (David’s body); Ruth R. s. 3, beg. פיפקין (corr. acc.). Yalk. Ps. 650 (ref. to Ps. X, 11, a. Job XXII, 14) הדיין הזה משהן נותנין פסליון לפניו וכ׳ (read: מותחין פפ׳) when they spread the curtain before him, the judge no longer sees what is going on; Midr. Till. ed. Bub. to Ps. l. c. נותנין פליטין (corr. acc.; Gen. R. s. 36, beg. מותחין כילה; Lev. R. s. 5, beg. הוילון).—Pl. פָּפִילְיוֹנוֹת (f.), פָּפִילְיוֹנִין. Y. Erub.
