עַתּוּד עַתּוּד, [leader of the flock,] ram.—Pl. עַתּוּדִים. Num. R. s. 13 ואין ע׳ אלא לשון עמידה ʿattudim has the meaning of standing (readiness). Y. Ab. Zar. II, 41ᵈ top (ref. to Prov. XXVII, 26) הגדילו ונעשו כע׳ וכ׳ when the pupils have grown and become (strong) like rams, then reveal to them the secrets of the Law.
