עִרְטֵל (Parel of עטל; cmp. Arab. ʿaṭal, a. עֲטַר II) to strip, denude. Gen. R. s. 6 מְעַרְטְלוֹ, v. נַרְתֵּק; Koh. R. to I, 5, v. השתק.

    Nithpa. - נִתְעַרְטֵל to be stripped; to denude one’s self. Gen. R. s. 19 (ref. to עירמם, Gen. III, 7) אפי׳ מצוה … נִתְעַרְטְלוּ הימנה they had stripped themselves even of the merit of obeying the only command given them. [Yalk. Job 913 והיו רגליו מִתְעַרְטְלוֹת his feet were stripped of their skin (by scalding), v., however, עִרְכֵּל.]
