עַקְמוּמִית עַקְמוּמִית f. (preced. wds.) 1) curve. Erub. 14ᵃ עַקְמוּמִיתָהּ חוץ למבוי if the curved portion (of the beam placed over the entrance) is outside the alley. Ib. כל שאילו תינטל עקמומיתה וכ׳ Ms. M. if, after the curved portion is taken off, there remains a gap of less than &c. Y. ib. I, 19ᵃ bot. והוא שתהא ע׳ מן הצד provided the curve is sideways; ע׳ שהיא מעכבת וכ׳ a curve which obstructs the alley. Y. Ab. Zar. I, 40ᵃ bot. דרך ע׳ היתה it was a tortuous road (on which he met her); Y. Ber. IX, 13ᶜ top עקמומיתה (corr. acc.); a. e.—Pl. עַקְמוּמִיּוֹת. Y. Erub. I, 18ᶜ bot. אלו … דרך ע׳ וכ׳ those living on this side of the alley make use of the curves (on this side of the wall), and those living on the other side make use of the curves (on the other side) &c. —2) ambush, hiding place (by the wayside).—Pl. as ab. Sifré Deut. 20 אין לך דרך שאין בה ע׳ there is no highway without ambushes; Yalk. ib. 804 (sing.). 3) crookedness of the heart, insidiousness. Midr. Till. to Ps. VII, 9 כתומי ולא כעַקְמִימוּתִי according to my simplicity, but not according to my insidiousness (sin). —4) (v. next w.) hump; trnsf. haughtiness. Ber. 59ᵃ לא נבראו רעמים אלא לפשוט ע׳ שבלב (Ms. F. לפסוק עקמומיות, pl.; v. Rabb. R.
