עֲקִיפִים, עֲקִיפִין m. pl. (עָקַף) *1) circuit. Sifré Deut. 26 יהיו מחזירים איתו בע׳ they shall lead him around in a circuit (expose him to public disgrace; Deut. R. s. 2; Yalk. ib. 810 בקוּמְפּוֹן). —2) circumvention, lawyer’s trick. B. Kam. 113ᵃ באין עליו בע׳ we bewilder him by subtle arguments; אין באין עליו בע׳ וכ׳ you must not do it, because you must sanctify the name of the Lord (by your integrity in dealing with a gentile).
