עֲגָבָה, pl. עֲגָבוֹת (עגב to be round) rump, buttocks (cmp. עָקֵב). Snh. 38ᵇ עִגְבוֹתָיו … מאקרא וכ׳ (not עגביותין) the earth for Adam’s rump was taken from Aḳra &c.; Yalk. Ps. 888. Nidd. 30ᵇ וב׳ עקביו על ב׳ עגבותיו and its (the foetus’) two heels lie against the two sides of its rump; Lev. R. s. 14; Yalk. ib. 547. Ber. 24ᵃ ע׳ … משום ערוה the contact of posteriors (of two persons lying in one bed) does not come under the class of indecency (as regards prayer). Sabb. 152ᵃ (expl. החגב, Koh. XII, 5) אלו ע׳ that means the rump; (comment. the genitals; Lev. R. s. 18 לוז של שדרה; Koh. R. to XII, 5 קרסוליו).
