סְמָמִית, [poisonous] spider. Sabb. 77ᵇ ס׳ לעקרב (Ms. O. ש׳) a (crushed) spider is a remedy for a scorpion’s bite; Y. Ber. IX, 13ᶜ bot. Sabb. l. c. אימת ס׳ על וכ׳ the fear which the scorpion has of the spider; Yalk. Am. 544 ש׳. Snh. 103ᵇ העלה ס׳ ע"ג וכ׳ Ar. (ed. ש׳) caused spider-web to cover the altar.—Pl. סְמָמִיּוֹת.
