סָטַן, שָׂ (b. h. שטן; cmp. טנן, טְנָנָא) to be hostile to; to hinder, accuse. Pesik. R. s. 13 (על) אותה הברכה אתה שׂוֹטְנֵינִי וכ׳ thou art hostile to me on account of that blessing; it is given to you. Pesik. R. s. 12; a. e. (interch. with שטם).
    Hif. - הִסְטִין, הִשְׂ׳ (with על) to bring charges against, accuse. Ib. s. 36 בואו ונַשְׂטִין על דורו וכ׳ come, let us bring charges against the Messianic generation, so that it may not be created. Ib. היאך אתם מַסְטִינִים וכ׳ how dare you attack &c.
