נְבִיאוּת נְבִיאוּת, (denom. of נָבִיא) prophecy, prophetic mission. Meg. 15ᵃ כל (מקום) ששמו … בנ׳ וכ׳ (v. Rabb. D. S. a. l. note) wherever the name of a person and that of his father are mentioned in connection with prophecy, it is sure that he was a prophet and the son of a prophet. Snh. 39ᵇ מפני מה זכה עובדיהו לנ׳ for what merit was Obadiah granted the gift of prophecy?—Bekh. 45ᵃ עשו דבריהם כדברי נ׳ they made their verdicts like those of prophecy, i.e. they gave no reasons for their opinions.
