מַשְׁמָשׁ, (preced. wds.; cmp. מַמָּשׁ) substance. Y. Ber. III, 6ᵈ bot. מַשְׁמָשָׁהּ קיים its substance remains visible; מים אין מַשְׁמָשָׁן קיים (not משמשה, ed. Lehm. משמוש׳) of liquids there is no substance left (when the spot is dried up).
