מְשִׁיחָה I, (מָשַׁח I) anointing, installation by anointing; use of the stem מָשַׁח. Ker. 5ᵇ, a. fr. (בעי) טעון מ׳ requires anointment (in order to be recognized). Ib. מ׳ עדיפא anointing (by drawing a figure, v. מָשַׁח I) is preferable to pouring oil (יְצִיקָה). Num. R. s. 12 מְשִׁיחַת אהרן כיצד how was Aaron’s installation done? Ib. במְשִׁיחָתָן של אלו וכ׳ with the anointment of these vessels were all the vessels of subsequent days consecrated. Sifré Num. 117 אין מ׳ אלא גדולה the stem משח refers to official emoluments, as we read (Lev. VII, 35) &c.; ib. אין מ׳ אלא שמן המשחה mashaḥ means installation with oil; a. fr.
