מַשּׂוֹא, מַשּׂוֹי, (מַסּוֹי) מַשְּׁאוֹי m.(b. h. burden, load. Y. Dem. II, 22ᵈ top אין כל א"י עושה מ׳ וכ׳ (not עשוי) the whole of Palestine does not produce one load of raisins. Ib. [read:] ואין כל א"י עושה מ׳ אחד של צימוקין אלא כן אמר לן אין מקום בא"י עושה מסוי וכ׳ does the whole of Palestine not produce &c.? But thus he said to us, no single place in Palestine produces &c. Sabb. 92ᵃ המוציא מ׳ למעלה וכ׳ he who transfers a load from one territory to another at a height from the ground of more than ten handbreadths. Erub. 22ᵃ (ref. to אל פניו, Deut. VII, 10) כאדם שנושא מ׳ על פניו וכ׳ like a man who carries a burden (hanging down) over his face, and is anxious to throw it off; Yalk. Deut. 846 כאדם שיש לו מ׳ (add: על פניו; Ms. O. Erub. l. c. מַסְוֶה). Midr. Till. to Ps. XXXVIII (ref. to Ezra IX, 6) לאדם שהיה … והמ׳ עליו like a man wading through a river, his feet sinking into the ground and a load on his head &c.; a. fr.—Pl. מַשּׂוֹאִין. Y. Dem. II, 22ᶜ הביא שלשה מ׳ וכ׳ if one brings three loads of provisions at a time, he is not yet considered a huckster (תגר).—Trnsf. care, interest. Y. Ber. III, beg. 5ᵈ אין לו מי שישא מַשּׂוֹאוֹ he has none to take from him his duty (of burying a dead relative).—Pl. as ab. Num.
