לְסוֹטָה לְסוֹטָה, (sub. בגד, חלוק) m. (orig. = לַסּוֹטָה, used as an independent w. as if from a root לסט, cmp. לָמַס) the thin web worn by loose women (= חלוק של יוצאת החוץ, Kel. XXVIII, 9, v. חוּץ II); in gen. fine veil. Y. Sabb. VI, 8ᵇ bot. (expl. רדידים, Is. III, 23) ל׳ כמה דתימר וכ׳ it is the dress of the ill-reputed, as we read (Cant. V, 7) they took my veil &c. (believing her to be a harlot). Ib. XIII, beg., 14ᵃ וההן ל׳ אפי׳ בסוף וכ׳ (not לסיטה) as regards the thin web, even the finishing (adding the fringe) is considered an act of weaving (in the Sabbath law). Y. M. Kat. II, 81ᵇ top הורון בהדין ל׳ וכ׳ decided concerning (the sale of) stuff for veils (during the festive week) &c.—Pl. לְסוֹטוֹת. Y. Sabb. IV, 7ᵃ top, v. חָף.—Chald. form: לְסוֹטַיָּיא. Y. B. Mets.
