לִכְלֵךְ לִכְלֵךְ, לִיכְ׳ (cmp. לְכַךְ) 1) (= לחלח) to moisten; to season by dipping into vinegar &c. Ruth R. to II, 14 (v. לִכְלוּךְ) של׳ מעשיו כחומץ ממעשים רעים he (Manasseh) amended his conduct as if with vinegar (freeing it) from bad deeds.—Part. pass. מְלוּכְלָךְ, f. מְלוּכְלֶכֶת; pl. מְלוּכְלָכִים; מְלוּכְלָכוֹת. Y. Ḥag. III, 78ᵈ מל׳ במשקה dipped in liquid, contrad. to מלוא משקה, opp. to נגיב. Y. Sabb. XII, 16ᵇ top אם מל׳ במשקה if the cane is saturated with oil. Ker. 13ᵃ טיפה מל׳ על וכ׳ the drop with which the nipple is moistened; a. e. —2) to soil, stain; to defile. Midr. Prov. to XI, 22; Yalk. Prov. 944 (ref. to Prov. l. c.) אם … היא מְלַכְלְכוֹ בטיט if thou puttest a golden ornament on the nose of a swine, it will soil it with mud &c.; כך ת"ח … מְלַכְלֵךְ את תורתו so does a scholar … soil his learning; (Midr. Prov. l. c. מקלקל).—Part. pass. as ab. Yoma 77ᵇ היו ידיו מלוכלכות וכ׳ Ms. M. 2 (v. Rabb. D. S. a. l. note 100) if his hands are soiled &c. Gen. R. s. 65 הייתי משמשו בבגדים מל׳ I used to attend him in soiled (working) garments. Ex. R. s. 22, end (ref. to Job XVI, 17) מי שידיו מל׳ בגזל וכ׳ he whose hands are soiled with robbery, will call … but not be answered. Ex. R. s. 27, end מל׳ בעבירות soiled with sins. Lev.
