יְחַס , Pa. ַחֵס same, 1) to nobilize, distinguish. Targ. Y. Num. XXV, 13. —2) to trace, to record. Meg. 12ᵇ [read:] אי לְיַחוּסֵיח קאתי לְיַחֲסֵיה וליזיל וכ׳ (v. Rabb. D. S. a. l. note) if the text (Esth. II, 5) were intended to give Mordecai’s genealogy, it ought to trace him back to Benjamin. Yeb. 62ᵃ יַחְסִינְהוּ בשמייהו וכ׳ he recorded them by their names and those of their fathers &c.
