חֲמַע I ch. = h. חָמֵץ to be sour; to be leavened. Targ. O. Ex. XII, 34; a. e.; v. חֲמִיעַ.—Y. Pes. II, end, 29ᶜ בגין דיִחְמַע that it might turn sour (vinegar).
    Pa. - חַמֵּעַ to leaven. Pes. 41ᵃ חַמּוּעֵי מְחַמֵּעַ (not מחמעא; Rashi: אַחְמוּעֵי מַחְמַע Af.) (the flour) causes leavening.—Part. pass. מְחַמַּע, v. infra.
