וַיָּנַיָּא, (denom. of וַי or וָהּ) woe-makers, a word coined in opposition to הוללים (merry-makers), and defined by אללי as a play on הולל־. Pesik. Aḥăre, p. 170ᵃ קרי להון ווי נייה אלו שביאין אללי וכ׳ (Ar. זהיינא, corr. acc.) called them (the hol’lim, Ps. LXXV, 5) vayyanaya, those who bring al’lay (woe) &c.; Lev. R. s. 17 זהוניא (corr. acc.; ib. s. 20 אלליא); Tanḥ. Aḥăre 2 זה והנייא ed. princ. (later ed. פסוק זה הוללים, corr. acc.); Tanḥ., ed. Bub., ib. 3 דהוניא; Yalk. Lev. 524 וי וייה (corr. acc.); Yalk. Ps. 811 זוהנוייא, זוהוניא (corr. acc.).
