הַגְעָלָה, = גִּיעוּל, the cleaning of an impure vessel by means of boiling water. Ab. Zar. 76ᵃ ה׳ בחמין hagalah is always done with hot water. Ib. מאי ה׳ דקתני התם מריקה וכ׳ Ms. M. (ed. differ.) the hagalah there (in the Mishnah) means in general scouring and rinsing (also with cold water).
