הֶגְמוֹנְיָא הֶגְמוֹנְיָא, הֶגְמוֹנְיָה f. (ἡγεμονία) 1) commandership, consulship. Gen. R. s. 50, beg.; Lev. R. s. 26 נטל ה׳ וכ׳ got an appointment as a consul from the King. Cant. R. to I, 6; Lam. R., introd. (R. Yitsḥ. 3) וכולן עשו ישראל ה׳ (אחת) וכ׳ and Israel declared all these gods one government and worshipped all of them; Esth. R. to I, 9 אומוניאה (read: אֶגְמוֹנִיאָה, cmp. אֶגְמוֹן).—Pl. הֶגְמוֹנִיּוֹת staff of commanding officers. Tanḥ. Yithro 5 לה׳ שעליהם (not להגמונות) to the staff appointed over them (to take them to the exile). Midr. Till. to Ps. CXVIII, 6 he will send forth דוגמניות על וכ׳ (corr. acc.) staffs to all countries &c. —2) (v. Sm. Ant. s. v. Eisagogeis) court, administration, jurisdiction, district. Gitt.
