דָּפַן (cmp. דַּף) to hammer, force into a groove &c.—Part. pass. דָּפוּן, f. דְּפוּנָה. Kel. II, 3 חבית ד׳ וכ׳ an attachment in the shape of a jar fitted into the projecting rims of a vessel (to serve as a handle).
    Pi. - דִּפֵּן to force, enforce the law against. Sifra Emor ch. I מנין אם לא רצה דַּפְּנוֹ whence do we prove the rule, ‘If he refuses (to dismiss her), force him’; Yeb. 88ᵇ מנין שאם וכ׳ (read אם). Ib. צריכא למימר דפנו (not דד׳, v. Yalk. Lev. 629). Ib. דפנו בעדים proceed against him by procuring counter-evidence.
