גְּרַב (cmp. גרף) 1) to scrape, v. next ws. —2) to rob, seize, levy. Sabb. 148ᵃ זיל גַּרְבֵיה go and seize him (take his coat until he appears). Ib. לא בדינא גְרַבְתִּיךְ was I not right in summoning thee? Ḥag. 5ᵇ גַּרְבוּהוּ they (the royal officers) seized his property. Gitt. 45ᵃ משום דלא לִיגַרְבוּ וכ׳ in order that robbers should not be tempted to kidnap persons and then offer them for ransom. Ib. 46ᵇ גרבי להו seized them (for debts).
