בִּזְרָא, (= בר זרעא, v. Nöld. Mand. Gr. p. 55) seed. Targ. Y. Gen. I, 11 sq. (O. בר זרעא). Ib. v. 29.—Snh. 93ᵃ, v. אַסְפַּסְתָּא. B. Mets. 74ᵇ אריסא יהיב בי׳ the tenant furnishes the seed; a. fr. Erub. 53ᵃ ביזרא Ar. (Mss. a. ed. בירא, v. also Rabb. D. S. a. l. note 1); v. אֶצְבְּעָא. B. Bath. 73ᵃ; v. בִּזְקָא.—Sabb. 140ᵇ נקיט ב׳ וכ׳ Ar. (ed. reversed order a. כורא, Var. ברזא, סורא, a. בורא דחספא, v. בּוּרָא II) he (R. Ḥisda) took a (valueless) seed grain in one hand and a pearl in the other; the pearl he showed to them (his daughters), but he would not show them the seed grain until they were excited, and then he showed it (as an illustration of the folly of curiosity). [Ar., with a Var. ברזא, translates, a valueless pebble = בִּזְקָא q. v., which seems to be confirmed by the vers. בורא דחספא (read בז׳ for בו׳) a fragment of an earthen vessel.] [Rashi’s interpretation is grammatically forced and out of harmony with the natural reserve of a father towards his daughters.] [Ib. 103ᵃ לביז׳ דקרא for (putting in) the seed of a pumpkin (Ar. לבורא, ed. Koh. לבירא, Ms. M. לבירא דקירא as a cavity for planting &c.).]—Pl. בִּזְרִי, בִּיזְ׳. Ḥull. 51ᵇ דעביד ב׳ when the flax stalks have seminal vessels. Ib. 60ᵇ שדא ביה ב׳ Ar. (ed. ביזרני) he put seed into it.
