אַקְנָיָיתָא, pl., הַקְנָאָה h. f. (קני I) giving possession, whence שְׁטָרֵי אַ׳ or שְׁטַר ה׳ an agreement by which one’s landed estate is mortgaged in the form of a sale from date, independent of the loan to be consummated afterwards, so that at a certain date the creditor can claim the property, even if sold in the meantime, by referring to the priority of his purchase; deed of transfer (v. Mets. 16ᵇ אקנייתא without שטר׳).—אַקְנָיָיתָא בְּמָנֵי transfers, or sales by symbolic delivery, v. מָנָא; whence Aknayatha B’mané, adaptation of the name of a Babylonian festive time and fair (cmp. יָרִיד). Ab. Zar. 11ᵇ Ms. M. a. oth. (ed. אקניתא בחנוני, Var. אקניתיה); [cmp. Y. ib. I, 39ᶜ where our w. seems to be rendered כנוני].
