אַפְתָּא II, (archit.) a chamber or wing projecting from a building (with stairs from outside), balcony-chamber. B. Bath. 61ᵃ (explain. יציע). Ḥull. 92ᵃ ב"כ דתותי א׳ a synagogue named ‘under the balcony’.
אַפְתָּא II, (bot.) stole, tuber. Lam. R. to I, 16, end כהדא א׳ דקרא וכ׳ like that tuber of cabbage, the larger the latter grows, the smaller gets the former.
