אַפָּא I ch. c. same; 1) face, presence. Targ. Ez. I, 6; a. e.; v. אַנְפָּא.—Gen. R. s. 35, beg. למיחזי סבר אַפָּאִי to see my countenance. Gen. R. s. 87 it is right הדין אַפָּהּ כסי that the face of this (idol) is covered.—M. Kat. 20ᵇ באַפָּהּ in her presence, בלא א׳ in her absence.—Transf. front. Ḥull. 47ᵃ אפה וכ׳ the front (of the lungs) facing the examiner.—With ל-, towards, opposite. Snh. 72ᵃ קאי לאפאי he places himself opposite me (for defence).
