אַחֲרָאִי, (foreg. wds.) prop. designated to step behind, substitute; hence, he who (or that which) is gone back to, obligated, pledged; surety, guarantor. — Pl. אַחֲרָאִים, אַחֲרָיִין. Dem. III, 5 אין אנו א׳ וכ׳ we are not responsible for deceivers. Pes. IX, 9 אינן אחראין זה לזה they are not responsible to one another (need not care for each other). Y. Keth.
