אַוְותֶּנְטִי, (αὐθέντης) originator, author. Gen. R. s. 16 פרת א׳ של וכ׳ the Euphrates is the originator (ultimate source) of the rivers (mentioned Gen. II, 10 sq.).—Pl. m. אַוְותֶּנְטִין. Y’lamd. to Num. XI, 16 (quot. in Ar. s. v. אמתנטין) כנגד אפת׳ של ישראל וכ׳ (corr. אוו׳) corresponding to the number of the originators of Israel, for with seventy souls &c.—Fem. אַוְותֶּנְטִיֹּות, אַוְותֶּנְטִיאוֹת.
