קָטַע (cmp. גָּדַע) to cut off, lop, mutilate. B. Kam. VIII, 1. Ib. 7 האומר … קְטַע את ידי וכ׳ if one says to one’s neighbor, cut my hand off, he (who did so) is bound to pay damages. Ab. Zar.     Pi. - קִיטֵּעַ same, also to cut through. B. Kam. 83ᵇ יכול … מְקַטֵּעַ את ידו (Ms. M. נְקַטֵּעַ) (from Ex. XXI, 24) you might think, if a person cut a man’s hand off, one (we, the court) should cut his hand off. Tanḥ. Ḥayé 3 מְקַטְּעִין ויוצאין וכ׳ they (the waters) cut through and come forth between the mountains.—Part. pass. מְקוּטָּע; f. מְקוּטַּעַת; pl. מְקוּטָּעִים, מְקוּטָּעִין; מְקוּטָּעוֹת lopped, defective. Pesik. R. s. 31 שהיו אצבעותיהם מק׳ their fingers were mutilated (bitten off).—חדשים מק׳ (or sub. חדשים) incomplete months, a fraction of the last month of pregnancy. Y. Bets. I, beg. 60ᵃ, v. סוּם I.
