הַתְחָלָה, (תחל Hif.) beginning, preliminary act. Sabb. 9ᵇ הַתְחָלַת התספורת the preparations for hair-cutting.—Ex. R. s. 1 אין ויואל אלא לשון ה׳ vayoël (Ex. II, 21) has the meaning of beginning (attempting). Ber. 14ᵇ הויא ה׳ is considered a beginning of the recitation (and you must finish it); a. fr.—Pl. הַתְחָלוֹת. Mekh. Yithro, Baḥod., s. 2 כל ה׳ קשות all beginnings are difficult. Cmp. אַתְחַלְתָּא.
