שִׁלְשֵׁל II שִׁלְשֵׁל II (cmp. שָׁלַל I) 1) to chain, couple. Tosef. Ber. VI (V), 6; Pes. 105ᵇ ומְשַׁלְשְׁלָן כולן לאחרין and combines all of them (the benedictions) in the prayer after the meal. Y. Kidd. I, 61ᵃ bot.; Y. Sabb. I, 3ᵃ אם יכול את לשַׁלְשֵׁל … שַׁלְשְׁלָהּ וכ׳ if thou canst couple a tradition by quoting authorities up to Moses, do so; if not, quote either the very first or the very last authority; a. e.—Part. pass. מְשׁוּלְשָׁל knotted. Num. R. s. 97 שהיה … לחבל מש׳ זה בזה וכ׳ his (Israel’s) offspring was like a rope knotted together, one part to the other, for all could trace their descent in uninterrupted succession. —2) to form chains, curls.
