Ib. 27ᵇ עופות … ק׳ ברגליהן וכ׳ fowls have on their feet a scaly skin like fishes, v. חַסְפְּנִיתָא. Ib. 66ᵇ הוה אמינא מאי ק׳ סנפיר I might have thought ḳasḳeseth (rough skin) refers to fins. Ib. וממאי דק׳ לבושא הוא (Ms. R. 2 קלפי נינהו) and whence do we learn that ḳ. means a covering (scales)? (Answ. ref. to I Sam. XVII, 5); a. fr.—Sifra Sh’mini, Sh’ratsim, ch. IV, Par. 3 ק׳ אחת one set of scales.—Pl. קַשְׂקַשִּׂים, קַשְׂקַשִּׂין. Ib. המרבה בק׳ וכ׳, v. סְנַפִּיר. Ib. (ref. to אפיקי מגנים, Job XLI, 7) אלו ק׳ that means scales; Ḥull. 67ᵇ. Ib. III, 7 ואלו הן ק׳ הקבועין בו וכ׳ by ḳaskassin we mean those which are inflexible, by s’nappirin those with which the fish moves.—Tosef. Ohol. XVII, 3 שדה ק׳ (ed. Zuck. a. R. S. to Ohol. XVII, 1 קַסְקַסִּים) a field full of scales (where all sorts of refuse are deposited).
