קִיטּוּף, קִטּ׳ m. (קָטַף) 1) plucking ears, opp. to קציר cutting. Sifra K’dosh. Par. 1, ch. II; Y. Peah III, 17ᶜ לקט קצירך לא לקט ק׳ ‘the gleanings of thy harvest’ (Lev. XIX, 19), but not the gleanings of plucking. Pes. 11ᵃ; Men. 68ᵃ מתוך … אלא ע"י ק׳ וכ׳ because you allow him to take of the new crop only by plucking (forbidding regular harvesting before the ‘Omer is cut), he will be mindful (that he dare not eat of the produce before the second day of Passover); a. e. —2) forming and smoothing the surface of dough. Y. Pes. III, 30ᵇ top גמרה … זה קִיטּוּפָהּ וכ׳ with the one woman her finishing means her kneading, with the next, her forming the cakes, with the third, her baking.
