לַיִישׁ, (לוּשׁ) dough. Sifré Num. 89 (ref. to ל̇שׁד̇, Num. XI, 8) [read:] זהו לשון נוטריקין דבר אחד משמש שלש לשונות הל̇ייש והש̇מן והד̇בש כל׳ הזה וכ׳ this is short-hand writing, one word-sign serving for three words: dough, oil and honey, like a dough moulded into cake with oil &c.; Yalk. ib. 735.—[לַיִישׁ lion, v. לַיִשׁ.]
