כְּרִיָה, (כָּרָה) digging, esp. digging a pit through which an animal was injured (Ex. XXI, 33). Mekh. Mishp., N’zikin, s. 11; Tosef. B. Kam. VI, 13 נפל לפניו מקול כ׳ if the animal fell forward (into the pit) frightened by the sound of digging (within the pit), נפל לאחריו מקול הכ׳ if it tumbled backward &c. B. Kam. 49ᵇ על עסקי כ׳ for the act of digging a pit (although not on his own soil). Ib. 50ᵃ ה"א כ׳ הוא דבעי כיסוי I might have thought only when he dug the pit he is bound to cover it up; a. e.
