יִחוּס, (יָחַס) genealogy, pedigree (v. יוֹחָס). Num. R. s. 13 לכן הוא מונה שם יִחוּסָם therefore the Scripture records there (Ex. VI, 14 sq.) their genealogy; a. e.—[Y. Gitt. VIII, 49ᶜ bot. יי׳ כהונה, v. זִיהוּם.—Y. Yeb. II, 4ᵃ top, v. יַחַס.]—Pl. יִחוּסִים, יִחוּסִין, יִי׳. Num. R. l. c. שמרו יִחוּסֵיהֶם they preserved their genealogical records; Cant. R. to IV, 7. Gen. R. s. 37 הראשונים … יִיחוּסֵיהֶם וכ׳ as regards former generations whose genealogies were known, their names were published in connection with historical events; אנו יִיחוּסֵינוּ וכ׳ … but with us who do not know our records, our names are defined by those of our fathers; (Yalk.
