חָשַׁל (b. h.; cmp. חָסַל) to scrape off, polish; to reduce. Pi. - חִישֵּׁלto crush, batter. Koh. R. to I, 6 the Lord מְחַשְּׁלוֹ בהרים breaks it (the vehemence of the wind) through the mountains; (Lev. R. 15; Gen. R. s. 24 מרשלו; Y. Ber. IX, 13ᶜ bot. מכשלו). Nif. - נֶחְשָׁלto be crushed. Sifré Deut. 296 (ref. to נחשלים, Deut. XXV, 18) שנמכו … ונֶחְשְׁלוּ מתחת וכ׳ who have been crushed out of the ways of the Lord and battered away from under the protection of etc.
