חָפַן חָפַן, [to bend the fingers, form a hollow of the hand, denom. חוֹפֶן; whence] to take handfuls. Maas. Sh. II, 5 אם בלל וח׳ וכ׳ if he mixed the coins up and took by handfuls, you go by the proportion of the coins mixed. Y. ib. 53ᶜ כבולל וחוֹפֵן it is as in the case of him who &c.—Esp. (of the priest) to take grabs of incense with both hands (v. חֲפִינָה). Yoma V, 1. Ib. 47ᵃ היה חוֹפֵן וכ׳ used to grab &c.; a. fr. ערכים סמוכים
