חִזָּיוֹן II m. or חֶזְיוֹנָה (v. חֲזָזִית) 1) lichen, moss. B. Mets. 105ᵇ ramification (סוכה) is considered weak, שנחבאת בחֶזְיוֹנָהּ (or בחזיונָה) when it is hidden under (fully covered with) moss. [Ar. ed. בחיזונה, ed. Koh. בחזיונה; comment.: the grip of the hand, fr. אחז; marg. emend.: באֲחַזְיוֹנָה, v. Tosaf. a. l.]—Erub. 28ᵃ אבל לא בחזין ולא בחזניות Ms. M. (Rabb. D. S. a. l. note quotes חזיונות) but neither with lichens nor with lichen dishes (Lecanora esculenta). —2) pl. חֶזְיוֹנוֹת lichen, scab; trnsf. irregular lumps of clouds. Y. Taan. III, 66ᶜ bot. a cloud is called ḥaziz (v. next w.) שהוא עושה … ח׳ ח׳ וכ׳ for He makes the sky full of irregular lumps (cumuli), as we read (Zech. X, 1), the Lord makes ḥăzizim
