חוֹטָם m. (חטם, v. חתם) [seal, mark,] 1) the distinctive feature of the face, nose, nostril. Yeb. XVI, 3 (120ᵃ) identification of a corpse can be established only בפרצוף פנים עם הח׳ on seeing the face with the nose on. Y. Sot. IX, 23ᶜ bot., v. הַכָּרָה. Lev. R. s. 18, beg. והירח זה הח׳ ‘the moon’ (Koh. XII, 2) is a metaphorical expression for the nose; Sabb. 151ᵇ; a. fr.—Taan. 29ᵃ בעל הח׳ a disguise for the well-known man, v. בָּקַשׁ. [Y. Sabb. VI, 8ᵇ bot. חוטמה, v. חוּט III.]—2) the oblate part of a spheric body. Nidd. 47ᵃ; Tosef. ib. VI, 4 ראש הח׳ the top (central circle) of the oblate part of a female breast.
