זוּזָא I זוּזָא I, Targ. I Sam. IX, 8 (h. text רבע שקל).—Kidd. 12ᵃ קום כ"ד בז׳ twenty four Isar went on a Zuz: when the Isar was reduced, קום ל"ב ז׳ thirty two Isar went &c.—Sabb. 66ᵇ ז׳ חיורא a new silver coin; Pes. 74ᵇ, v. זְגוּגִיתָא. Ḥag. 5ᵃ (prov.) ז׳ לעללא וכ׳ a Zuz for provision is not on hand, but for (saving from) hanging it is, i.e. charity often waits for the extremest distress. B. Kam. 11ᵃ (prov.) כשורא במתא בז׳ וכ׳ a joist in town costs a Zuz, a joist in the woods the same, i.e. the cost of transportation has no influence on the price; a. fr.—Pl. זוּזִין, זוּזֵי; also in gen. money.
