אִישׁוּת, (v. אִישׁ) matrimony, marital state. Ab. Zar. 36ᵇ דאורייתא א׳ דרך חתנות biblically intermarriage with gentiles is forbidden only in the way of legal marriage (opp. concubinage, &c.). Y. Kidd. I, 59ᶜ bot. שִׁפְחוּת אחר א׳ servitude after marriage, i.e. a father selling his daughter after she had been married and had returned to her parental home in widowhood &c. Yeb. 76ᵃ, a. fr. לשום א׳ with the intention of establishing a matrimonial relation.
