אֲוַשׁ, אֲוַושׁ, Pa. אַוֵּושׁ, (√אוו, v. אָוָוז; cmp. אוף, אנף, אפף, אופי, אוסי, אבב)
אֲוַשׁ, to blow vehemently, make noise, shout. B. Mets. 86ᵃ נשב זיקא וא׳ וכ׳ the wind blew and howled between the branches. Ber. 50ᵃ וכ׳ איידי דאוושו because all shouted, the prayer was not heard. Ib. אוושו כ"ע ברכו they all shouted ‘bar’khu’.—Erub. 97ᵇ אוושא מילתא the thing grows loud, becomes known. Ḥull. 46ᵇ ריאה דא׳ lungs which give out a sound when blown up (indicating perforation). Ber. 58ᵃ כי קא אוושא (Ms. M. שמעו קל א׳) when shouting was heard.
אֲוַשׁ, to swell, to be large, fulsome, lengthy (in wording). R. Hash. 35ᵃ משום דאוושי ברכות (Ms. M. קראי …) because the benedictions are numerous and lengthy. Ned. 2ᵇ הלין דא׳ וכ׳ משום because the last named propositions are lengthy, he explained first what he had commenced with.
