צָרִיךְ, (צָרַךְ) needing; needed; he (she, it) must. Sabb. II, 7 שלשה … צ׳ אדם לומר וכ׳ a man must order three things &c. B. Bath. 110ᵃ הנושא אשה צ׳ שיבדוק וכ׳ he who is about to marry a woman, should investigate the character of her brothers. Ber. 13ᵃ צ׳ כונה must be read with the intention to comply with the law. Ib. 14ᵃ, a. fr. ואין צ׳ לומר (abbrev. ואצ"ל, or וא"צ לומר) and needless to say, of course. Yoma 83ᵃ חולה אומר צ׳ … אינו צ׳ if the patient says that he needs food (cannot fast), and the physician says, he does not need. Ib. צ׳ אני I must have food. Tosef. Ḥag. II, 11 צְרִיכֵנִי וכ׳ I must offer it &c. Pes. 5ᵃ, a. fr. אינו צ׳ this reference to a Biblical verse is unnecessary. Y. Ḥag. II, 78ᵃ top; Snh. 46ᵃ, a. e. השעה צ׳ לכך the condition of the time required such a measure; a. v. fr.—צדיכה (sub. שאלה, בדיקה &c.) is questionable, is undecided. Y. Ned. IV, beg. 38ᶜ לקצור צ׳ ולבצור צ׳ (not צריכא) as to harvesting and grape-cutting, it is questionable (whether he may borrow tools of one from whom he has vowed not to derive any benefit, v. הֲנָאָה).—צ׳ לנקביו, v. נֶקֶב, a. צָרַךְ.—Pl. צְרִיכִים, צְרִיכִין; צְרִיכוֹת, Sabb. 55ᵇ, a. e. אנו צ׳, v. מוֹדָעִי.
