רָחָם, (b. h.) raḥam, name of an unclean bird, giereagle or vulture. Ḥull. 63ᵃ ר׳ זו שרקרק ולמה … ר׳ כיון שבא ר׳ וכ׳ raḥam (Lev. XI, 18) is the sh’raḳraḳ, and why is it called raḥam (love)? Because when the r. comes, mercy comes upon the world (it betokens rain).
