V, beg. 22ᵇ [read:] צ׳ לך צחק לך לא צ׳ לך הפליג עליך he who needs thee may smile (assent) to thee (flatter thee), he who needs thee not, dares to wonder at thee (in disapproval); Y. Snh. XI, 30ᵇ top צריך לך שחק וכ׳; a. e.—Mostly pass. צְרִיךְ to need, be needed. Ib. תלת עשרה … דלא צ׳ ליה he spent thirteen years … without needing him. Taan. 20ᵇ לא צְרִיכְנָא האידנא now we do not need it. Yeb. 105ᵇ תא לא צְרִיכַת come back, she needs not (to be examined, or: thou needest not examine her).     Ithpe. - אִצְטְרִיךְ to be needed; to need. Targ. Y. I Gen. XVI, 5. Ib. XLVII, 12; a. fr.—Taan. 23ᵃ כי מִצְטְרִיךְ עלמא למטרא whenever the world needed rain. Ber. 9ᵃ א׳ למכתב וכ׳ it was necessary (in the Scriptural text) to write hazzeh. Ib. 13ᵃ והיו … למה לי א׳ וכ׳ that v’hayu (Deut. VI, 6) which is written, what is it for? It is needed because of the preceding sh’mʿa. Bets. 7ᵃ א׳ לאשמעינן it was necessary to let us understand distinctly. Bekh. 31ᵃ אִיצְטְרִיכָא ליה שעתא the time needed him, i.e. the scholars felt in need of his teaching.
