עַסְקָן m. (preced. wds.) 1) experimenter, observer of nature. Ḥull. 57ᵇ ע׳ בדברים היה וכ׳ he used to make experiments, and he made one to disprove R. Judah’s theory. Ib. מאי ע׳ בדברים why was he called an experimenter? Lev. R. s. 19 (in Chald. dict.) ר׳ אסי הוה ע׳ R. A. used to experiment. Lev. R. s. 22 ר"ש הוה ע׳ בדברים; Koh. R. to V, 8 עוֹסְקָן. —2) busy, moving automatically.—Fem. עַסְקָנִית; pl. עַסְקָנִיּוֹת. Succ. 26ᵇ ידים ע׳ הן hands are busy, i.e. touch things automatically.
