עֲגַן ch. same , to press, tie; to seclude, imprison. Targ. Is. XXIV, 22 וִיעַגְנוּנוּן וכ׳ and they shall press them into the prison house (ed. Lag. ויגונונון, ed. Ven. ויגינונון, contr. of ויַעְגִּינוּ׳ Af.(?); Ar. ויִעַגְּנוּן Ithpa.; h. text סֻגְּרוּ).—Part. pass. עָגִין; pl. עֲגִינִין. Ib. XLII, 7. Ib. 22, v. next w. Ib. XLIX, 9.
    Pa. - עַגֵּן to make lonely, desert (a wife). Gitt. 26ᵇ ומְעַגַּן ומותיב לה he might desert her.
    Ithpa. - אִתְעַגֵּן, אִיעַגֵּן to be secluded, tied up; (of a woman) to be prevented from marrying, be an עֲגוּנָה. B. Mets. 19ᵃ משום דלא תִתְעַגֵּן ותתיב הוא Ms. M. (ed. תעגין, corr. acc.) it was done in order that she might not remain a widow in life.
