נוֹבֶלֶת, (נָבַל) unripe fruit, esp. date, fruit falling off unripe. Y. Maasr. I, 48ᵈ bot. נ׳ היא it is unripe fruit (and not yet subject to tithes).—Pl. נוֹבְלוֹת. Midr. Till. to Ps. XIV עתיד … להשירו כנ׳ וכ׳ the Lord will cause him (Esau-Rome) to drop like unripe fruit which drops from the tree—Esp. nob’loth a) an inferior quality of dates (which generally fall off unripe). Dem. I, 1 נ׳ התמרה. Ber. VI, 3, expl. ib. 40ᵇ בושלי כמרא (v. בּוּשְׁלָא), and תמרי דזיקא (v. זִיקָא I). Y. ib. VI, 10ᶜ top ראה נ׳ שנשרו וכ׳ when one sees nob’loth which fell off, one says, ‘blessed be the faithful Judge’. Tosef. Dem. I, 1 הנ׳ … התמרה the unripe dates which are sold with the palm; Y. ib. I, 21ᶜ bot. Tanḥ. B’midb. 15 מה התמרה הזו עושה תמרים ועושה נ׳ as the palm bears good dates and inferior ones &c.; Num.
