כָּרַךְ כָּרַךְ (cmp. כָּרָה) to encircle, twine around, embrace, wrap. Men. 39ᵃ תכלת שכ׳ רובה a fringe the larger portion of which he twined together (v. תְּכֵלֶת). Ib. כדי שיִכְרוֹךְ וישנה וכ׳ enough to twine around three times. Yoma 38ᵃ כְּרָכָהּ embraced it (clung to the bronze door). Sabb. 133ᵇ וכָרְכֵהוּ בשיראין נאין Ms. M. (ed. וכוֹרְכוֹ) and twine handsome ribbons around it. Pes. 115ᵃ; Zeb. 79ᵃ היה כוֹרְכָן וכ׳ used to wrap them together (insert the Passover meat and the bitter herb between the Matsah). Ab. Zar. 18ᵃ כְּרָכוּהוּ בס"ת וכ׳ they wrapped him in a scroll of the Law and burned him. Tosef. Meg. IV (III), 20 כּוֹרְכִין תורה וכ׳ you may wrap the Pentateuch in covers intended for &c.; (Meg. 27ᵃ גוללין); a. fr.—Pes. IV, 8; Tosef. ib. II (III), 19 כּוֹרְכִין את שמע they recited the confession of faith (Deut. VI, 4 sq.) in one כֶּרֶךְ, without the proper pauses (or without inserting ‘Blessed be the Name of His glorious kingdom &c.’ between verses 4 and 5), v. Pes. 56ᵃ, a. Y. ib. IV, 31ᵇ.—Part. pass. כָּרוּךְ, f. כְּרוּכָה; pl. כְּרוּכִים, כְּרוּכִין; כְּרוּכוֹת twined around, wrapped up; trnsf. (with אחר) clinging to, running after. Ber. V, 1 אפי׳ נחש כ׳ וכ׳ even if a serpent is wound around his heel, he must not interrupt his prayer, v. כְּרִיכָה. Kidd. 66ᵃ הרי כ׳ ומונחת וכ׳ behold it (the Law) is wrapped up and lies in the corner, whoever wishes may study it. Gen. R. s. 78 בפנים כ׳ אני מהלך I shall walk with my face wrapped up (in humility).—Ḥull. 78ᵇ (expl. Lev. XXII, 28) מי שׁבנו כ׳ אחריו that animal to whom the young clings (the mother). Sabb. 52ᵃ כרוכין with the chain or halter twined around them, opp. נמשכין led by the chain &c. Ḥull. 59ᵇ (קרנים) כרוכות horns the layers of which encircle one another. Ex.
